What these numbers mean

Download

How fast data reaches you. Streaming 4K needs ~25 Mbps; a household of heavy users is comfortable above 100 Mbps.

Upload

How fast data leaves your device. Video calls need ~5 Mbps; cloud backups and live streaming benefit from 20 Mbps or more.

Ping

Round-trip latency to the nearest edge server, measured on an already-open connection so handshakes never inflate it.

Jitter

Variation between latency samples. Below 10 ms keeps voice and video smooth; higher values cause stutter and dropouts.

Loaded latency

Latency measured while download and upload traffic saturate the connection. Its increase over idle ping is bufferbloat — lower is better for calls and gaming during heavy use.

How the test works

Six parallel download streams and three upload streams are opened to this site’s own edge network using incompressible random data. The first 1.5 seconds of each phase is discarded so connection ramp-up cannot distort the result. Live readings use a rolling window to remove packet-batching spikes; the final result is anchored to all bytes transferred across the stable window.

Getting an accurate reading

Close other tabs and downloads, pause streaming on other devices, sit close to your router or use a wired connection, and run the test two or three times to see a consistent range.

Privacy

No result is ever persisted. Speeds and samples exist only in this browser tab and vanish on reload — nothing is written to a database, a log or a cookie. The transferred payload is random filler discarded on both ends. The only value kept on your device is your privacy-mode preference. Turn privacy mode on and the provider lookup — the single third-party request on this page — never happens.

Why results differ from your plan

Advertised speeds are measured at the line, not at your device. Wi‑Fi, older hardware, VPNs and peak-hour congestion all reduce what actually arrives.
